Brockwell Lido in Brixton has been named the best place in London for a refreshing dip during a heatwave, according to new research by TimeOut. The art deco lido, built in 1937, features a 50-metre unheated pool and ample sunbathing space, making it a local favourite when temperatures rise.
TimeOut's top spot
TimeOut's list of the top swimming pools and lidos in London ranked Brockwell Lido as number one. It also received an additional accolade as the best spot for a post-swim brunch. The Grade II listed building retains its original Art Deco vibe, with an open terrace perfect for sunbathing after a swim.
Pool features and pricing
The 50-metre pool is completely unheated, ideal for cooling down during hot weather. Lane bookings are available for serious swimmers, while a lane-free open space allows casual visitors to enjoy a relaxed dip. Pizza chain 400 Rabbits has a takeaway window next to the pool, offering pizza and iced coffee. A 50-minute slot costs £9.50.
According to the article, early booking is recommended during hot spells. The lido is open all year round, seven days a week, including Christmas Day. Advance bookings for the week ahead show availability on weekday evenings and most Saturday slots, except for the 1pm general swim.
Recent history and community response
The lido's future was uncertain in April 2026 when its parent company, Fusion Lifestyle, went into administration. However, Lambeth Council took over operations, ensuring the lido's survival. This was welcomed by locals and fans. On TikTok, user @katiehoylee described her visit as 'dreamy,' praising the open section for chilling and floating. User @chewashere_ called a cold water swim at Brockwell Lido 'one of the best solo dates in the city.'
Mixed reviews on facilities
While the pool itself is praised, some TripAdvisor reviews criticise the changing rooms. VM-S wrote in August 2023: 'The pool is as clean as possible and a great size and temperature for swimming. Sadly, the state of the changing rooms has much to be desired.' Louise C added: 'I was shocked at the state of the changing rooms, toilets, and communal areas. It feels like it is never cleaned.'
