One conversation with an unexpected Coronation Street resident is about to change everything for Will Driscoll (Lucas Hodgson-Wale). The teenager has spent the past few weeks in denial over Megan Walsh (Beth Nixon) sexually abusing him.
When Megan was introduced to us towards the end of last year, it was revealed that she had been manipulating Will into thinking they are in a relationship. Megan’s abuse was exposed to the police but due to the fact she had carefully ensured no physical evidence was created, they couldn’t prove anything inappropriate actually happened between her and Will. She was pregnant with Will’s baby at one point, but Megan refused to take a DNA test.
This left the Driscoll family with the conclusion that they should take matters into their own hands. It left the likes of Maggie Driscoll (Pauline McLynn) and Eva Price (Catherine Tyldesley) determined to get Megan to face some sort of justice, but their plans didn’t work. While this was going on, Will continued to believe that Megan loved him and planned to run away with him to France, where they would start a new life.
However, this was merely another one of Megan’s lies, because when an excited Will gave her a book called ‘The Lover’s Guide To Paris’, she threw it in the bin behind his back. Unaware that he’s busy plotting a departure, Ben Driscoll (Aaron McCusker) and Melanie (Cindy Humphrey) – Will’s mum – have been arguing about where Will should live.
Mel thinks that Will should move to Scotland and live with her and next week, he tells Eva that he cannot wait for his fresh start. Of course, it’s a cover up for the fact he’s busy securing flights to France with Megan. After waving goodbye to his family, Will gets into Tim Metcalfe’s (Joe Duttine) taxi and heads out of Weatherfield. In the cab, Tim receives news that the Glasgow train is cancelled, and grows suspicious when Will insists they head for the station anyway.
Back at the pub, Ben is thrown into a panic when he realises Will’s passport is missing. He heads to the cab office and asks Steve McDonald (Simon Gregson) to call Tim and tell him to keep Will in his sights. In an attempt to get through to the teen, Tim tells Will about his relationship with Trisha. He explains that while he enjoyed it at the time, he’s now come to realise that he technically was a victim of rape.
Tim’s chat at last breaks down those barriers Will has. Later in the week, he tells Ben and Maggie that reporting Megan was the hardest thing he’s ever had to do as he loved her. Meanwhile, DS Lisa Connor-Swain (Vicky Myers) interviews Megan and says that Will is alleging that he had a sexual relationship with her. Megan claims Will is lying – but can she wriggle out of this? Or will Megan get charged?
