Two women have been taken to hospital after a car crashed through a motorway barrier and off a bridge onto the road below near Glasgow Airport. The incident occurred on the M8 westbound at Junction 27, White Cart Viaduct in Paisley, at around 8.40pm on Thursday, 16 July 2026.
Crash details and response
The vehicle went through the barrier on Renfrew Road, which crosses over the motorway heading westbound. Footage shared online shows the smashed car with debris scattered around as bystanders peer into the passenger and driver's windows. The M8 was closed following the crash and reopened at midnight, with Renfrew Road reopening shortly after.
Police statement
Police Scotland confirmed: 'The M8 westbound at Junction 27, White Cart Viaduct in Paisley, has reopened following a one-car crash reported around 8.40pm on Thursday, 16 July, 2026. Renfrew Road between Abbotsinch Retail Park roundabout and Arkleston Road roundabout has also reopened. Two females have been taken to hospital for treatment.'
The extent of the women's injuries is not yet known. Authorities are investigating the cause of the crash.
