Woman Pleads Not Guilty to Attempted Murder of Rihanna After Shooting at Star's Home
Ivanna Lisette Ortiz, a 35-year-old woman from Orlando, Florida, has pleaded not guilty to charges including attempted murder following a shooting at Rihanna's Los Angeles home. The incident occurred on March 8, 2026, while the singer, her partner A$AP Rocky, their three young children, and other family members and staff were present on the property.
Details of the Charges and Court Appearance
Ortiz faces one count of attempted murder specifically in relation to Rihanna, along with 10 counts of assault with a semiautomatic firearm and three counts of shooting at an occupied vehicle or dwelling. She entered her plea through her attorney, deputy public defender Derek Ray Dillman, during a hearing at Los Angeles Superior Court.
Appearing behind glass in a custody area, Ortiz wore yellow prison clothes with her blonde hair in braids. She agreed to waive her right to a speedy preliminary hearing, the next phase where evidence will be presented to determine if a trial is warranted.
The Shooting Incident and Aftermath
According to prosecutors, approximately 20 shots were fired at Rihanna's home in the Beverly Crest neighborhood of Los Angeles. District Attorney Nathan Hochman stated that Rihanna and Rocky were in an Airstream trailer at the time, while her mother, their children, and staff members were inside the main house. Fortunately, no one was injured in the attack.
Deputy District Attorney Alexander Bott emphasized the severity of the case, noting, "This case involves a dangerous, deliberate shooting into occupied homes. This is the kind of conduct that could easily have resulted in multiple homicides." Ortiz was arrested hours after the shooting, found alone in her car with a rifle, additional ammunition, and a wig intended for use as a disguise.
Legal Consequences and Background
If convicted on all charges, Ortiz could face life in prison. She is currently jailed on $1.8 million bail, equivalent to approximately £1.35 million. Public records indicate that Ortiz has been a licensed speech pathologist for over a decade, adding a layer of complexity to her profile.
Rihanna, a nine-time Grammy winner with numerous chart-topping hits like "We Found Love" and "Umbrella," is also the founder of the successful makeup brand Fenty Beauty. The shooting has drawn significant attention due to her global celebrity status and the violent nature of the alleged crime.
