Shooting at Lakeside Mall leaves two dead

Two people were killed and one person was injured in a shooting at Lakeside Mall in Sterling Heights, Michigan, on Friday evening, according to police. The suspect fled the scene and remains at large.

Police responded to reports of gunfire at the mall around 6:15 p.m. local time. Officers found three victims with gunshot wounds. Two were pronounced dead at the scene; a third was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Suspect described as male, armed and dangerous

Sterling Heights Police Lt. Mario Bastianelli said the suspect is described as a male, possibly in his 20s, wearing a hoodie and a mask. He was last seen fleeing the mall on foot. Police believe he may have left the area in a vehicle. Authorities have not released a motive for the shooting.

“We are asking the public to be vigilant and report any suspicious activity,” Bastianelli said. “The suspect is considered armed and dangerous.”

Mall evacuated, investigation ongoing

The mall was evacuated and closed for the night. The FBI and local law enforcement are assisting in the investigation. Police are reviewing surveillance footage and interviewing witnesses.

This is the latest in a series of mass shootings in the United States. According to the Gun Violence Archive, there have been over 300 mass shootings in the country so far this year.
