The dismantling of agencies like USAID under the guise of 'efficiency' has had devastating global consequences. This represents a stark departure from past norms where political lies were furtive and punished; now, they are brazen and central to governance.

From Los Angeles to Chicago to Charlotte, North Carolina, citizens have risked their own safety to protect neighbours from Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raids. This movement is underpinned by compassion and a defence of truth. Lawyers, judges, journalists, scientists, and educators have worked to protect facts, science, and law from authoritarian corruption. The fight for justice for Jeffrey Epstein's victims, driven by solidarity and a belief in equality before the law, proved particularly potent. It triggered significant Republican defection in Congress, with members voting to release files and speaking against Trump himself.
Entering 2026 With Power and Uncertainty
The administration's initial momentum has been challenged throughout 2025. It has stumbled, faltered, and backed down in numerous confrontations. Polls show Trump's popularity and perceived handling of key issues like the economy and immigration have declined radically over the year.
