Three Inmates Charged With Murder of Child Killer at HMP Wakefield
Three prisoners charged with child killer's murder

Three prisoners have been formally charged with murder following the death of a convicted child killer at HMP Wakefield, in an incident that marks the second high-profile prison killing at the facility in less than a month.

Charges Filed in Wakefield Prison Death

Kyle Bevan, 33, was found dead in his cell on Wednesday morning at the West Yorkshire prison, commonly known as 'Monster Mansion' for housing some of Britain's most dangerous offenders. Bevan had been serving a life sentence for the murder of his partner's two-year-old daughter, Lola James, in Haverfordwest, Pembrokeshire in 2020.

West Yorkshire Police confirmed that Mark Fellows, 45, Lee Newell, 56, and David Taylor, 63 now face murder charges in connection with Bevan's death. All three men have been remanded into custody and are scheduled to appear at Leeds Magistrates' Court this morning.

Second High-Profile Prison Killing

This tragic incident occurs less than four weeks after another notorious criminal met a violent end within the same prison walls. Paedophile and former Lostprophets singer Ian Watkins was stabbed to death at HMP Wakefield in early October.

In that previous case, inmates Rashid Gedel, 25, and Samuel Dodsworth, 43 were charged with Watkins' murder. The prison has seen further arrests, with two additional men taken into custody on suspicion of conspiracy to murder in connection with the Watkins case.

Ongoing Investigations and Security Concerns

The consecutive murders of high-profile inmates within such a short timeframe has raised serious questions about security measures and inmate safety at HMP Wakefield. The Category A prison, which houses approximately 750 prisoners, has a history of managing some of the country's most dangerous criminals.

Authorities have launched multiple investigations into both incidents, examining how such violence could occur despite the prison's high-security status. The situation has prompted calls for urgent reviews of prison safety protocols and staffing levels.

This remains a developing story as police and prison authorities continue their investigations into the circumstances surrounding Bevan's death and the charges brought against the three accused inmates.
