Murder probe after man stabbed near Hackney school

A murder investigation has been launched after a man in his late 20s was stabbed to death near a school in Hackney, east London. Police and paramedics were called to Downs Park Road at 1.42pm on Monday, July 13, following reports of a stabbing. Despite efforts by the London Ambulance Service, the man was pronounced dead at the scene. His next of kin has been informed.

Police investigation underway

The Metropolitan Police confirmed that no arrests have been made at this early stage. Detective Chief Inspector Wayne Jolley, from the force’s Specialist Crime Command, said: “Our investigation remains in the early stages and officers are working at pace to identify those responsible. Police will remain in the area overnight as our enquiries continue and I encourage anyone with any information to contact us.”

The incident occurred in broad daylight near Mossbourne Community Academy, a secondary school and sixth form, and Hackney Downs Park. Detective Chief Superintendent Brittany Clarke stated that there continues to be a large police presence in the area.

Isolated incident, say police

Det Ch Supt Clarke added: “We understand that this incident occurred close to a school in broad daylight which will be hugely concerning for local residents. We don’t believe this to involve any pupils at the school and are treating this as an isolated incident. We will continue to update the community when we can.”
