Serena Sugden, played by Casey Al-Shaqsy, has uncovered the truth about John Sugden's murder, putting Robert Sugden, Aaron Dingle, and Victoria Sugden at risk of arrest. The revelation came after Serena's police background was exposed by Kev Townsend in the July 15 episode, which is available on ITVX and YouTube but has not yet aired on ITV1.
Serena's secret identity revealed
Since arriving in Emmerdale, Serena claimed she wanted to reconnect with distant cousin Robert Sugden. However, her intense interest in John Sugden's life and the death of Nate Robinson raised suspicions. Kev Townsend initially thought he recognized Serena as a prison guard, but later realized she was a police officer. He confronted Robert at Emmerdale Farm, revealing the truth.
Robert and Aaron, along with Victoria, have been covering up John's murder since January, when Victoria killed the crazed medic. Victoria later left for Portugal after police ruled John's death a suicide. Robert's discovery that Serena is a cop sent him into panic.
Serena's interrogation and threat
In the July 15 episode, Serena admitted she used to work in the police but no longer does. She explained that John had given her family his army pension, which helped their struggling farm. This generosity made her question how John could commit such horrors. She had leftover money and planned to give it to Tracy Shankley and her daughter Frankie via Vanessa Woodfield.
Despite her explanation, Serena's curiosity persisted. She questioned Bob Hope about Moira Dingle's farm sale and noticed Bob didn't know why Robert and Victoria sold their farmland. She confronted Robert again, cleverly steering the conversation to suggest Victoria killed John. Serena stated she wouldn't turn Victoria in, but Aaron was furious when he learned Robert had revealed their secret. Aaron feared Serena might still be connected to other police officers, realizing the danger they were in.
Impending exits and police station visit
Believing he, Robert, and Victoria could be arrested, Aaron headed to the pub for a final drink. Meanwhile, Serena was seen entering a police station, hinting she may report the murder cover-up. Multiple Emmerdale residents are leaving the soap this year, and Robert, Aaron, and Victoria could be next. Isabel Hodgins is expected to return as Victoria, but her first storyline might involve questioning about John's death.
According to Metro, Serena's actions could lead to three more Emmerdale exits, adding to the list of departures in 2026.
