Three individuals have been apprehended by Italian authorities following a horrific gang rape in a Rome park, where attackers forced a man to watch the brutal sexual assault of his 18-year-old fiancée.
A Night of Terror in Tor Tre Teste
The incident occurred on October 25, after the young Italian couple had parked their car in a secluded area of Tor Tre Teste, a park in the eastern part of the capital. According to reports from the Italian broadcaster TG La7, the couple were naked inside their vehicle moments before the attack began.
The assailants smashed the car window, forcibly dragged the 24-year-old man from the vehicle, and pulled out his fiancée as she desperately tried to cover herself with an item of clothing. Two of the attackers then restrained the man while his fiancée was dragged a short distance away.
The Brutal Assault and Arrests
The man told police he was held down and forced to witness the gang sexually assault his fiancée. He cried out for help and pleaded with them to stop, but was powerless to break free from his captors.
Following the attack, all the perpetrators fled the scene. Authorities believe up to five assailants may have been involved. The terrified and confused couple immediately contacted the police.
Investigators have since arrested three Moroccan men on charges of gang rape and robbery. Two of the suspects were tracked down by officers from Rome's Flying Squad unit just days after the attack. The third man was apprehended in Verona a few days ago. The arrests were kept confidential while police gathered further evidence.
Fingerprints lifted from the shattered car window have been matched to the arrested men, solidifying the case against them. Officers initially considered the incident a robbery, as the couple's belongings were stolen, and the attackers are suspected to be involved in drug dealing.
Ongoing Investigation and Park's Troubled History
The investigation remains active, with police seeking two other individuals in connection with the crime.
This is not the first violent incident to occur in Tor Tre Teste park. In a similarly disturbing event last August, a 60-year-old Italian woman was raped and robbed of her phone while walking her dog in the same area, highlighting ongoing safety concerns.
