Hampshire Constabulary has launched a murder investigation following the fatal stabbing of a 68-year-old woman at a home in a quiet village.
Discovery of a Fatal Incident
Officers were called to an address off the B3046 in Cheriton, Hampshire, at 10.31am on 9 January. Upon arrival, they discovered Gilly Livie with serious injuries. Despite immediate efforts by police and ambulance crews, she was pronounced dead at the scene.
A subsequent post-mortem examination confirmed that Ms Livie's death was caused by a stab wound to the neck.
Injured Man and Police Reassurance
At the same address, police also found a 39-year-old man known to the woman. He had sustained injuries to his neck and leg, initially described as life-threatening. The man was taken to hospital, where he remains in a stable condition.
A police spokesman stated that no-one else is being sought in connection with the incident. Chief Inspector Korine Bishop addressed community concerns, saying: "We know this incident will cause great shock in the community. I want to reassure people we have a large number of officers working hard on this investigation."
Ongoing Enquiries in the Village
Chief Inspector Bishop added that while detectives continue to establish the exact circumstances, there is believed to be no further risk to the public. "At this time we are not looking for any other third party in connection to this investigation, but will continue to investigate with an open mind," she said.
Police officers have been conducting enquiries at the address since the report and are likely to remain visible in the Hampshire village area in the coming days. Local residents with concerns have been encouraged to speak to the uniformed officers present.
