Murder Charge After Man, 60, Dies in North London Attack

A murder investigation has been launched by the Metropolitan Police after a 60-year-old man died from injuries sustained in a violent attack in North London. The victim, identified as Michalis Kyriacou, was found seriously injured by officers on patrol in Chippenham Road, Maida Vale, at approximately 2:40 am on Thursday, May 14.

Police provided first aid at the scene before paramedics from the London Ambulance Service arrived and transported the man to hospital. He spent a week in medical care but tragically succumbed to his injuries on Friday, May 22. Specialist officers are supporting his family.

During the investigation, detectives examined the victim's known associates and arrested a 36-year-old man on suspicion of attempted murder on Sunday, May 17. Biniam Tewolde Negash, of Maida Vale, was charged with attempted murder the same day and appeared at Westminster Magistrates' Court on Monday, May 18, where he was remanded into custody. Following Mr. Kyriacou's death, the Crown Prosecution Service has been informed, and the charges are under review.

Detective Chief Inspector Brian Howie, of the Met's Specialist Crime Command, stated: "Our thoughts are with Michalis' family and friends following this tragic news. We also want to reassure the local community that specialist officers are working hard to put together an exact picture of what took place."

Police are appealing for anyone with information about the incident to come forward. Witnesses or anyone with dashcam or CCTV footage from the area at the time are urged to contact the investigation team.
