Murder charge after boy dies 14 years post-infant injury

A man has been charged with murder following the death of a boy who succumbed to complications from a severe head injury he sustained 14 years earlier as a baby.

Arrest at Heathrow and Historic Incident

Lejunae Wood, aged 42 and from Wuppertal in Germany, was arrested at London's Heathrow Airport on Thursday, 4 December 2025. He was detained on suspicion of the murder of Leajunne Wood, who died in December 2021.

The Metropolitan Police stated that the murder charge relates to an incident that occurred in Hayes, west London, in December 2007. At that time, the victim, Leajunne Wood, was just four months old and suffered what were described as life-changing injuries.

A Tragic Death Years Later

Leajunne Wood passed away on 6 December 2021. It was not until pathologist reports were completed that the direct link to his childhood injury was established. The findings, which emerged in 2023, concluded that his death was due to complications stemming from the severe head injury inflicted over a decade prior.

This medical revelation prompted the Met Police to launch a formal murder investigation, leading to the recent arrest.

Court Appearance and Ongoing Case

The suspect, Lejunae Wood, is scheduled to appear at Wimbledon Magistrates’ Court on Saturday, 6 December 2025. The case highlights the complex nature of investigations where a significant period elapses between the initial assault and the victim's eventual death.

The Metropolitan Police have not released further details regarding the relationship between the suspect and the victim, nor the specific circumstances of the 2007 incident. The force's decision to pursue a murder charge underscores the legal principle that an individual can be held responsible if their actions ultimately lead to a death, even years later.
