Guilty Pleas Entered in Greenock Murder Case

Two men have admitted their involvement in the brutal murder of 35-year-old Michael Beaton in Greenock, a case that shocked the local community.

Richard Mullan, 21, and Alexander McQuillan, 27, both pleaded guilty to murder at the High Court in Glasgow for their roles in the fatal incident that occurred on 26 November 2023.

A Violent and Fatal Assault

The court heard how the attack unfolded on Drumfrochar Road in Greenock. Michael Beaton was first run over by a car before being subjected to a further assault with a bladed weapon.

He was discovered with serious, life-threatening injuries and was rushed to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow for emergency treatment. Despite the best efforts of medical staff, he later died from his injuries.

Justice Served and Community Impact

Detective Chief Inspector Graham McCreadie of Police Scotland described the event as a "shocking and violent attack". He stated that while the convictions would not bring Michael back, he hoped they would provide some comfort to the grieving family.

Both killers are now awaiting sentencing, which is scheduled to take place at a later date. The police emphasised that such violent acts are not tolerated and that they remain committed to bringing perpetrators to justice.
