Radio Call Reveals Shocking 18-Day Delay in Body Discovery Report
A man who discovered a dead body in Maryland waited nearly three weeks to report his find, choosing to share the news with a morning radio show rather than contacting authorities directly. The bizarre incident unfolded when a caller identifying himself only as Joseph contacted the Elliot in the Morning show on DC101 radio station.
The man described finding the corpse while "exploring nature" and astonishingly called the discovery "amazing" rather than disturbing. When pressed by horrified hosts about what he had found, he revealed: "It was a dead body. It was amazing. This may sound sick, but I've always wanted to come upon something like that, and luckily it was months old, so that was nice."
Police Confirm Investigation After Radio Alert
Initially sounding like the ramblings of a fantasist, the report turned out to be genuine when Frederick County Police Department in Maryland confirmed they had indeed located a body after investigating details provided during the radio broadcast. The department issued a statement on Facebook acknowledging they were "aware of information shared earlier today on a local radio station regarding a deceased individual found in a wooded area off East Street and Carroll Creek Crossing."
The caller had provided specific location details, noting the body was found "along the highway, it's a tent city from a year ago that was shut down." He speculated that "this guy died in his sleep, whether it was an overdose or he froze to death" and claimed the advanced state of decomposition made him feel no urgency to report the discovery immediately.
Hosts Urge Immediate Police Contact
Radio host Elliot Segal repeatedly urged the caller to contact authorities, asking why reporting to police wasn't his first action. When questioned if the body remained at the location, the man responded: "As of 18 days ago, yes."
The caller admitted he had dreamed about reporting the discovery to police the night before his radio call but hadn't actually done so. Under pressure from the show's hosts, he eventually agreed to contact police immediately after hanging up, stating: "I'll have them pick me up and we'll drive out to the site."
Frederick Police confirmed their Criminal Investigations Division detectives had responded to the information, located the individual, and launched an active investigation. Authorities assured the public that "at this time, there is no threat to the public" regarding the discovery.
