Man pleads not guilty to train stabbing attacks

Anthony Williams, 33, has pleaded not guilty to 10 counts of attempted murder after a mass stabbing on an LNER train from Doncaster to London on November 1 last year. He also denied charges related to separate attacks earlier that day and the previous day, including an incident at Pontoon Dock DLR station in London.

Court appearance and charges

Appearing by video-link at Cambridge Crown Court on Thursday, Williams entered pleas of not guilty to a total of 21 charges. He denied assault occasioning actual bodily harm over an alleged attack on a male police officer in custody on November 2.

Williams also pleaded not guilty to one count of attempted murder and possession of a bladed article over an incident at Pontoon Dock DLR station in the early hours of November 1, where a victim suffered facial injuries after being attacked with a knife.

Other incidents

He pleaded not guilty to possession of a bladed article on a train between Peterborough and Huntingdon on November 1 and to the attempted murders of a 14-year-old boy, a 22-year-old man, and a 28-year-old man in Peterborough on October 31.

Williams also denied affray at a barbershop in Peterborough on October 31 and the theft of a pack of knives from an Asda store in Stevenage on October 31. He pleaded not guilty to the assault of a man on a King's Cross to Peterborough train on November 1 and denied possessing a bladed article in a public place at a footbridge near Henry Penn Walk, the Rail World car park, and Queen's Walk in Peterborough on October 31.

Trial date set

Judge Mark Bishop remanded Williams in custody until his trial, which will take place on October 26. A further case management hearing is scheduled for October 2. According to the Press Association, the trial is expected to proceed later this year.
