A 25-year-old man has died and a 22-year-old man is in hospital with gunshot wounds following a shooting in Clapham on Monday night, with the younger man arrested on suspicion of murder.
Police and paramedics were called to Willington Road, Clapham North, just before 10pm on August 10 after reports of gunfire. The 25-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene; despite paramedics' efforts, he could not be saved. His family has been informed and is receiving support from specialist officers, the Metropolitan Police said in a statement on Tuesday morning.
Shortly after the shooting, the 22-year-old arrived at a hospital with a gunshot wound. He remains hospitalised, and the severity of his injuries has not been disclosed. Police have arrested him on suspicion of murder.
Investigation and Scene
Detectives are working to establish the full circumstances of the incident and are conducting enquiries around Willington Road and Landor Road. The area remains heavily cordoned off with yellow police tape, and forensic tents have been set up, with a residential building also taped off.
Detective Chief Superintendent Emma Bond, Central South Borough Commander, said: “We understand that incident will cause concern within the local community and an increased police presence will remain in the area throughout the day as our enquiries continue. Our thoughts remain with the victim’s family for their tragic loss.”

“Officers have arrested a man on suspicion of murder, and we are working tirelessly to establish what happened,” Bond added. “We are asking anyone with information or anyone who may have witnessed the shooting to please contact us as soon as possible and support the ongoing investigation.”
