Detectives from the Metropolitan Police have charged a man with murder following the death of a 74-year-old woman in Newham, East London. The victim's body was discovered in a residential property in Forest Gate shortly after midday on Tuesday, February 17.

Details of the Incident

Officers responded to reports of a death at St George's Square, where they attempted to provide first aid to the elderly woman. Despite their efforts, she was pronounced dead at the scene. The victim has not been publicly named, but her next-of-kin are receiving specialist support from police family liaison officers.

Arrest and Court Proceedings

Richard Clayton, 44, of St George's Square, was arrested at the scene and subsequently charged with murder the following day. He appeared at Barkingside Magistrates’ Court on February 19, where he was remanded into custody. Clayton is scheduled to make his next court appearance at the Old Bailey on Monday, February 23.
