Metropolitan Police have identified and charged a man from North West London in connection with a dramatic smash-and-grab robbery at a jewellery shop in Shepherd's Bush. The incident, which saw multiple suspects escape on mopeds with valuable items, has left several individuals still being sought by authorities.
Chaotic Early Morning Raid at Sultan Jewellers
In the early hours of Thursday morning, January 29, several men targeted Sultan Jewellers on Uxbridge Road in Shepherd's Bush. Armed with a sledgehammer, they smashed the shop's windows at approximately 3:30 am before making off with a haul of expensive jewellery. Police response was swift, with officers arriving at the scene within just three minutes of the alarm being raised.
One suspect was apprehended at the location and taken into custody. Overnight, Jason Daley, aged 33 and residing on Priory Park Road in Brent, was formally charged with offences of burglary and criminal damage. He has been remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court.
Ongoing Manhunt for Escaped Suspects
Despite the arrest, a significant number of suspects managed to flee the scene on mopeds and remain at large. During the chaotic raid, police officers were threatened with a hammer by one of the individuals, although no injuries were reported among the law enforcement personnel. Providing an update on the investigation, a Met Police spokesperson confirmed that efforts to locate the escaped individuals are continuing intensively. Detective Superintendent Alex Bingley, from the Met's Central West command unit, praised the rapid response of the officers involved.
"Quick work by our officers meant we were on the scene within minutes and able to interrupt the thieves," he stated. "I'd like to thank the response officers first on the scene, who were threatened with a weapon. We know that incidents like this cause significant concern for businesses and residents, but we would like to reassure the public that we are working at pace to identify all those involved in this burglary."
