Essex Police seized 13 supercars in an emergency response to reports of dangerous and anti-social driving on the M11. The high-performance cars, including Lamborghinis, Audi R8s, a Ferrari, and a Porsche, joined the motorway from North East London on Tuesday afternoon (July 28) at 4.20pm.
Public reports of dangerous driving
The Essex Police control room quickly received multiple reports from concerned members of the public as the convoy travelled northbound. Witnesses described drivers accelerating at 'excessive speed' before 'slowing down suddenly', with drivers allegedly braking heavily, bunching together, disrupting the flow of traffic, and using the hard shoulder to undertake other motorists.
Police action and seizure
Officers located the vehicles at services at Junction 8, near Stansted Airport. Police handed out 13 warnings for anti-social driving and seized all 13 vehicles.
An Essex Police spokesperson said: 'A number of offences have been identified for investigation and further enquiries are ongoing.'
Sergeant Will Willsher added: 'The behaviour reported to us was not only anti-social but potentially placed other road users at serious risk, especially on a busy motorway during peak travel times. Roads Policing Unit officers acted quickly to locate the cars and take appropriate enforcement action. Speed limits are there to keep everyone safe and the law applies equally to all road users.'
Appeal for witnesses
Essex Police are appealing for anyone who witnessed the vehicles travelling northbound on the M11 around the time of the incident and has dash cam footage to come forward. Anyone with information, video footage, or dash cam recordings should contact Essex Police by calling 101.
