Hollyoaks star confirms major missing person story in summer

Hollyoaks is set for an explosive summer with a major missing person story, as confirmed by star Nicole Barber-Lane. The actress, who plays Myra McQueen on the Channel 4 soap, teased the upcoming drama in an interview with Metro.

Missing person plot unveiled

Barber-Lane hinted at a disappearance that will rock the village, though it won't involve the McQueen family. 'You've got to keep your eyes on the Cleo and Dodger situation,' she said. 'We've got a missing person somewhere – not in the McQueens but within in the village. The upcoming wedding is spectacular – in more ways than one! There are lots of things going on!'

The identity of the missing person remains a mystery, but the summer trailer has already teased the return of Cindy Cunningham (Stephanie Waring) at the centre of the action. Meanwhile, Dodger Savage (Danny Mac) is having an affair with Cleo McQueen (Nadine Mulkerrin) behind Theresa McQueen's (Jorgie Porter) back.

Myra in the dark

Myra is currently unaware of the affair, but Barber-Lane suggested her character would have plenty to say when the truth emerges. 'As usual, she will try to gather everyone and sort it out as best she can,' she said. 'However, what is annoying is that she is kept out of the loop. If she was kept in the loop she could give a little advice – so that it wouldn't get to the levels of drama it needs to be in order to be on the show!'

She added: 'But Myra clocks the Theresa/Dodger situation, she knows that's going on. She's a little worried about it. She's giving it the benefit of the doubt but hoping for the best.'

John Paul's exit

Barber-Lane also reflected on the departure of James Sutton, who played John Paul McQueen for two decades. 'He's said goodbye a couple of times, like myself – we've both boomeranged previously!' she said. 'I do feel this time he's taking it as a step and it's beautiful to see him fly personally – I'm really happy for him. But I was sad to see John Paul go!'

Hollyoaks streams Mondays to Wednesdays from 6am on Channel 4's streaming platform, or airs at 7pm on E4.
