Editorial Management

Betsy Reed, US Editor, oversees the entire US newsroom from New York. Before joining the Guardian in 2022, she was editor-in-chief of The Intercept and executive editor of The Nation. Her tenure has seen a major expansion in reporting capacity.

Dana Canedy, Managing Editor, brings over 20 years of experience at The New York Times, where she was part of the Pulitzer Prize-winning team for National Reporting in 2001. She also served as administrator of the Pulitzer Prizes and senior vice-president at Simon & Schuster.

Amana Fontanella-Khan, Opinion Editor, manages a team of over 15 US columnists and weekly opinion newsletters. She is author of Pink Sari Revolution and a public scholar at CUNY's Moynihan Center.

Eline Gordts, West Coast Editor, oversees more than a dozen reporters covering news, politics, tech, environment, gun violence, and culture. She previously worked at HuffPost as deputy enterprise editor.

Paul Harris, Deputy Editor, News, rejoined Guardian US in 2018 after roles at Al Jazeera America and Devex. He has also published two novels.

Michael Hudson, Head of Investigations, leads a team that has reported on US healthcare, cost of living, and corporate misconduct. He previously worked at the Associated Press and ICIJ on Pulitzer-winning investigations.

Malik Meer, Executive Editor for Features, Culture, and Visuals, has been with the Guardian since 2009 and previously served as West Coast editor.

Ankita Rao, Washington Editor, oversees politics and democracy coverage, including the Guardian's 2024 election coverage. She joined from VICE in 2019.

Jane Spencer, Deputy Editor and Senior Vice-President, Strategy, was previously executive editor at the Daily Beast and part of a Wall Street Journal team that won a Pulitzer in 2007.

Keisa Caesar, Senior Manager, Human Resources, leads HR strategy including diversity, equity, and inclusion. She spent over 20 years at the Associated Press.

Kai Falkenberg, General Counsel, provides legal expertise in media law, press freedom, and labor relations. She has taught at Columbia Law School and served as acting commissioner of NYC's media office.

Emilie Harkin, Senior Vice President, Growth, oversees reader revenue, which has doubled during her tenure. She previously held growth roles at Condé Nast, The Atlantic, and Foreign Affairs.

Nicole Kotzen, Senior Vice President, Development, leads philanthropic support and is executive director of theguardian.org. She has over a dozen years in nonprofit management.

Matt Mittenthal, Head of Communications, handles internal and external communications and brand strategy. He previously worked at BuzzFeed and in New York government.

Nataki Williams, Senior Vice President, Finance & Operations, oversees finance, IT, and facilities. She has more than 20 years of experience in media and mission-driven organizations.
