A grandfather from Buckinghamshire has returned to the United Kingdom after resolving criminal charges in Florida where he was accused of attempting to drown his daughter-in-law in a swimming pool.
The Florida Incident and Charges
Mark Gibbon, an electrical engineer from Beaconsfield, found himself at the centre of an international legal case following an alleged altercation at the Solterra Resort in Florida. According to the Polk County Sheriff's Office, the incident occurred during an argument about a will while Gibbon was staying with his daughter-in-law, Jasmine Wyld, 33.
Authorities reported that Gibbon allegedly tried to push Ms Wyld underwater during the confrontation. The situation escalated when his nine-year-old granddaughter jumped into the pool attempting to rescue her mother, but Gibbon reportedly pushed the child away.
Gibbon faced serious charges including second-degree murder and strangulation, but ultimately pleaded guilty to battery with the more severe charges being dropped. He secured his release by paying $26,000 in bail and completed an anger management course as part of his case resolution.
Return to the UK and Family Reconciliation
Since returning to his £800,000 home in Buckinghamshire, Gibbon has resumed his career as a lighting engineer for high-profile clients. Surprisingly, the victim in the case has not only forgiven him but actively advocated for his release.
Jasmine Wyld informed the State Attorney's Office that she believed Gibbon had been "punished enough" and expressed her desire for him to return to England and maintain contact with her and her daughter. She explicitly stated she had no fear of him despite the incident.
A source close to the family revealed to the Daily Mail that "Jasmine has obviously forgiven him and he's grateful that she played such an important role in securing his freedom."
Complex Family Dynamics Revealed
The case has brought to light complicated family relationships that extend beyond the Florida incident. The Daily Mail revealed that Gibbon and Wyld have been in a relationship for two years following the breakdown of both their marriages.
This development has caused significant strain within the family, particularly with Gibbon's son Alex, who is the father of Wyld's two children. A family source explained that "Alex and his dad don't speak at all" and described Alex feeling "an awful betrayal" about the relationship between his father and the mother of his children.
The family conflict has previously manifested in violent incidents. Two years ago, Alex Gibbon, 34, pleaded guilty to hitting his father with an £80,000 Porsche after separating from Ms Wyld. Alex also admitted to harassing Wyld, according to the Times.
Despite the turbulent family history and international legal proceedings, Mark Gibbon has now returned to his life and work in the UK, with the criminal case behind him and surprising support from the woman he was accused of attacking.
