Global Lens: From Ukraine's Frontlines to London's Protests
Global Photos: Ukraine, Gaza, London Protests

On Tuesday, 25th November 2025, picture editors from The Guardian curated a striking collection of photographs from across the globe, capturing moments of conflict, remembrance, and resilience.

Conflict and Human Resilience

In Kyiv, Ukraine, the night sky was illuminated by the stark reality of war. Glowing red tracer rounds cut through rising smoke as Ukrainian air defence systems engaged Russian drones and missiles. In a separate image from the capital, the human cost of the conflict was made clear as a woman sought safety in a hotel's underground shelter during an air attack.

The humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip was further compounded by severe weather. In Deir al-Balah, seven-year-old Saja Fayyad was pictured attempting to clear water from her family's flooded tent in a temporary camp for displaced Palestinians, a poignant scene following heavy rainfall.

Activism and Remembrance

In London, EnglandMedical Aid for Palestinians unveiled a public memorial to honour Palestinian healthcare workers killed in Gaza. Meanwhile, campaigners hosted a stunt directed at Chancellor Rachel Reeves in Parliament Square, as the Chancellor herself was photographed returning to Downing Street after a run.

Elsewhere in the world, activism took different forms. In Dresden, Germany, a trial began for seven accused left extremist members of a criminal organisation, alleged to be part of the 'Antifa East' gang suspected of attacks on right-wing extremists. In Washington, DC, US, demonstrators held a rally outside the White House to protest against former President Donald Trump.

Global Ceremonies and Disasters

The day also featured significant ceremonies and responses to natural disasters. In Ayodhya, India, the Sriram temple in Uttar Pradesh was the focus of a ceremony marking the formal completion of its construction.

In Hat Yai, Thailand, days of heavy rain led to severe flooding in the southern Songkhla province. Vehicles were pictured parked strategically on an elevated road in an effort to keep them out of the surrounding floodwaters.

Vigils for victims of violence were held in Sydney, Australia, with a display of shoes representing women killed by domestic violence this year, and in Guatemala City, Guatemala, where women lit candles on the eve of the International Day of No Violence Against Women.

Amidst these events, more tranquil moments were captured, such as a hawk taking off from the White House roof in Washington, DC, and the unveiling of the holiday light show at Saks Fifth Avenue in New York.
