The heartbroken family of a 66-year-old man have paid an emotional tribute after he died following an assault outside a village pub in Leicestershire.
A Life Tragically Cut Short
David Darke, from Appleby Magna, sustained fatal injuries in an incident outside The Crown Inn in the village on Thursday, 21 December. He was taken to hospital but sadly died on Saturday, 23 December.
In a moving statement released through Leicestershire Police, his grieving family described Dave as a deeply loved father to three daughters and a proud grandfather to three boys. They said he was a much-loved brother and a dear friend to many.
A Devoted Family Man and Friend to All
The family's tribute painted a picture of a vibrant and caring man. They remembered him as a strong, active, intelligent, and kind person who was a friend to all.
"He was a devoted family man with a deep passion for life, the outdoors, nature and walking," the statement read. "His life was tragically cut short and he's now reunited with his loving, caring parents. He will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved him."
They added that Dave would live on forever in their hearts, minds, and souls.
Murder Investigation Launched
Following Mr Darke's death, Leicestershire Police have re-arrested a 36-year-old man on suspicion of murder. The man was initially arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm following the incident on 21 December.
He was re-arrested on Saturday, 23 December, and remains in police custody as enquiries continue. Police are urging anyone with information about the assault outside the Crown Inn to come forward.
