Former US Academic and College Dean Faces Meth Dealing Charges in Indiana
In a startling case that echoes the fictional narrative of the crime drama Breaking Bad, a former educator with the surname White has been charged with illicitly dealing methamphetamine. Alan Jay White, 59, was arrested after a police raid on his Clarksville, Indiana, home uncovered 78 grams of suspected meth and counterfeit currency.
Police Investigation and Arrest Details
According to a statement released by Clarksville police on March 12, officers executed a search warrant at White's residence five days earlier. The authorities asserted that the quantity of meth discovered was too substantial for personal use, leading to charges of illegal drug peddling, counterfeiting, and possession of drug paraphernalia. The police department revealed they had been targeting White for years, alleging he operated as a drug dealer under the nickname "the professor" due to his prior role as a college dean.
White's Response and Defense
After being released from jail without posting bond, White spoke to WAVE, a news outlet based in Louisville, Kentucky. He did not contest the presence of drugs in his home but vehemently denied ownership. "They didn't find stacks of monies," White stated. "They did not find stacks of dope. They did not find guns." He highlighted the absence of the typical photographic evidence seen in drug busts, where money, weapons, and narcotics are displayed on tables.
White criticized the police investigation, questioning the allocation of resources. "If they've literally been following me for years, as they said, somebody's got to answer to their boss about what an incredible waste of resources it was," he remarked. "I'm saying if they found anything, it was maybe $250 worth, and it wasn't even mine."
Breaking Bad Comparisons and Academic Background
The arrest immediately drew comparisons to Breaking Bad, the acclaimed television series that aired from 2008 to 2013. Clarksville Police Chief Nathan Walls explicitly referenced the show in a statement, noting, "He's definitely no Walter White," alluding to the protagonist, a high school chemistry teacher who turns to meth production after a cancer diagnosis.
Media reports indicate that Alan White was appointed dean of the Indiana University Southeast (IUS) School of Business in 2007. His academic career included positions as an associate or assistant professor of finance at IUS and Murray State University in Kentucky. His LinkedIn profile shows his tenure as dean ended in 2017, coinciding with a prior arrest reported by the Courier Journal in Louisville, where police allegedly found him unconscious in a vehicle with drugs.
Current Status and Professional Shift
According to his LinkedIn page, White is now semi-retired from education and self-employed in home renovation and repair. The case continues to unfold as legal proceedings advance, blending elements of academic history with criminal allegations in a narrative that captivates public attention.
