The first person to discover the abuse was youngster Sam Blakeman (Jude Riordan), who tried to prove his theory but was repeatedly shut down by Megan. A conversation with Tim Metcalfe (Joe Duttine), who experienced similar abuse in his youth, eventually prompted Sam to go to the police.

Megan's defence lawyer, Adam Barlow (Sam Robertson), has faced significant animosity from Weatherfield residents for defending her. In a risky move, Adam visited the Driscoll family at the pub after the trial adjourned. He told Ben Driscoll (Aaron McCusker) and Eva Price (Catherine Tyldesley) that if Will does not change his story, Megan will walk free. The judge will decide whether the trial continues, but the damage has been done.
