Primark recalls purse over chemical risk to reproductive system

Primark has issued a recall for a brown colour block coin purse sold for £6 after it was found to contain excessive levels of phthalates, chemicals that can harm the reproductive system. The Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) issued the alert, stating the product presents a serious chemical risk and does not meet UK chemical regulations.

Details of the recall

The affected purse, model code 3103002 with barcode 991169270, was manufactured in China. It contains Dibutyl phthalate (DBP), Bis(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP), and Short Chain Chlorinated Paraffins (SCCPs) above legal limits. The OPSS said: “Phthalates are harmful to health and may cause damage to the reproductive system.”

What customers should do

Customers who purchased the purse should stop using it immediately and keep it out of reach of children. The item can be returned to any Primark store for a full refund. Customers can also contact Primark through its help centre or live chat function.
