Emmerdale's Kev Townsend (Chris Coghill) is like an onion with all the layers he's got going on. A slightly manky, past its best onion with more rot with each layer that falls off. Some of his layers, like the fact he's turned out to be a master baker, have been a pleasant surprise. Others, like he stole a diamond made of a dead cat's ashes which saw his newly discovered biological son get kidnapped, not so much.
Nicola's campaign against Kev
Nicola King (Nicola Wheeler) thinks she's got him pegged as rotten to the core and is determined to make Lewis Barton (Bradly Riches) see it too. Claudette (Flo Wilson), meanwhile, is hellbent on him getting a second chance. After Lewis got him a job at the café and Nicola made him quit, Claudette is on the case to make Kev stand his ground. Nicola is pleased as punch that he turned in his apron, and she begins working her magic to convince Vinny (Bradley Johnson), Mandy (Lisa Riley), and Lewis it was a good decision.
Kev's surprise move
Ah but when is Kev not full of surprises? He catches Nicola off guard when he asks for his job back. Kev has his next plan to prove his fatherly prowess with Lewis – he learns it's Lewis' birthday soon and has an idea to make up for lost time. But Kev takes the ham-fisted approach and comes on too strong, causing Lewis to back off. Ross is not impressed, erring on the Nicola side of caution.
A blast from the past
Their worries about Kev might just turn out to be founded. Another face from his past shows up in the village and this one might have more consequences than the last. Steve, played by Waterloo Road's Jason Done, shows up and we immediately know he's no good when Kev fiercely warns him not to ruin his chance at a new life. So Steve knows something Kev doesn't want getting out. What could it be? Is he an ex-cellmate, a former lover, or someone else Kev did over and is back to get their dues?
