A Croydon man allegedly slashed an 8cm wound into the neck of his ex’s new partner in a busy Mayfair nightclub, exposing the victim’s voice box and severing his jugular, a court has heard.
Sajeev Kumar sustained the deep cut from his left ear to the middle of his throat, as well as two wounds to his cheek, after the alleged attack by Lucci Guthrie on Tuesday, Hendon Magistrates’ Court was told.
Alleged Attack in Mayfair Nightclub
Guthrie, 28, from Croydon, is charged with attempting to murder Mr Kumar in the Mistress of Mayfair on St James’ Street. The incident occurred in front of multiple witnesses, and prosecutor Manisha Kukadia said it followed Guthrie approaching Mr Kumar “in regards to being in (the) nightclub”.
The court heard that Mr Kumar was dating the former partner of the defendant. Ms Kukadia said: “The complainant has slapped the defendant to the face and the defendant has then slashed his neck, his throat area and his face.”
Injuries and Charges
Mr Kumar suffered significant blood loss, a severed jugular, damaged nerves, and an exposed voice box, the prosecution added. He is currently in a stable condition, Ms Kukadia said.
Guthrie is also charged with using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour to cause harassment, alarm or distress to a police constable that day, allegedly because of the officer’s “sex or presumed sex”.
Guthrie appeared in court in a grey prison-issue tracksuit. He remains in custody and is scheduled to appear at the Old Bailey on August 14.
