The Guardian has issued corrections to several recent articles, including a misattributed claim about a bullet sent to a footballer and the timing of a meeting involving tennis star Andy Murray.
Regis, Not Batson, Received Bullet
An article titled "New claims surround a star Cambridge professor" (3 August, p6) incorrectly stated that footballer Brendan Batson reported being sent a bullet in the post after being selected for England. The reference should have been to his West Bromwich Albion teammate Cyrille Regis, who was the actual recipient of the threat.
Murray Meeting Date Corrected
In the same correction notice, the Guardian clarified that a meeting between Andy Murray and academic Jason Arday took place before an ATP Finals match in 2012, not before Murray's victory at the Olympics that year. The error appeared in a previous article about Arday.
Other Recently Amended Articles
The corrections also list several other articles that have been amended recently. These include a story about a British widow, 78, told to leave Sweden under Brexit rules after living there for 21 years; a report on Liverpool agreeing to sign Barcelona's Ronald Araújo on loan as cover for Jacquet; a piece on kids' TV composers, headlined "It might be one of the most unpopular tunes ever written!"; an article on Cambridge professor Jason Arday resigning amid accusations of plagiarism; an obituary for Bill Oddie; a story about a lobbyist telling Icac there's not a 'shred of evidence' he was involved with Reformers; and a report on Turkish farmers bearing the burden of the UK's plastic waste problem.
