The Guardian has issued corrections to three factual errors in recent articles, clarifying details about an investigative journalism group, a South African rugby captain, and a Scottish actor's training.
Verbatim Investigations' Origins Clarified
An editorial on 5 September (Journal, p2) incorrectly stated that Verbatim Investigations, which recently conducted an undercover sting on Reform UK, was founded by journalists from the “US Center for Climate Reporting.” The organisation was in fact founded by journalists from the Centre for Climate Reporting, without the “US” prefix.
Rugby Captaincy Correction
A sport article on 29 August (All Blacks brace for Bok-lash as Erasmus throws in plot twist, Sport, p12) misidentified the captain of South Africa’s Rugby World Cup-winning side in 1995. The captain was Francois Pienaar, not Joel Stransky. Pienaar led the Springboks to victory in the final against New Zealand.
Actor Ian Charleson's Training
An article on 5 September (Late actor’s final role inspires film encore, p15) incorrectly stated that Scottish actor Ian Charleson, star of Chariots of Fire, trained at Bristol Old Vic. Charleson actually trained at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA) before joining London’s Young Vic theatre company.

Other recently amended articles include: “US citizens will receive $5,000 if Republicans win midterms, Trump claims in lengthy convention speech”; “Woolworths increased prices of at least four ‘family staples’ during ‘Price Freeze’ promotion”; and “Francophiles, Norman outfits and broken threads: visitors see Bayeux tapestry in UK for first time.”
