Sarah Platt's luck finally runs out next week on Coronation Street when she is formally arrested and charged with the murder of Theo Silverton. Despite efforts by Gary Windass and Kit Green to protect her, the police close in, and the fallout threatens to destroy multiple lives.
Arrest and Aftermath
On Monday July 20, Kit desperately tries to glean information from DI McLaughlin, but she remains cagey and suspicious of his motives. His determination that Gary is about to be arrested rattles Sarah, who worries about the wedding outfit she handed to forensics. When Fiz Dobbs tells Maria that Kit is certain the police will arrest Gary imminently, Maria begins to panic. However, Kit is wrong: as the Platt family record a birthday video for Audrey Roberts, police arrive and arrest Sarah for Theo's murder. Kit later takes a call from her and tries to comfort her.
Dylan and Brody Clash
On Tuesday July 21, Brody and Dylan come to blows, with Brody spitting that if he were Betsy, he would press charges against Dylan. Later, Ryan Connor's stern words force Dylan to face his part in what happened to Betsy. While Sarah swears her innocence to police, Lisa Connor-Swain makes it clear to Kit that he is under suspicion for trying to cover up her crime. She confirms they will charge Sarah with murder and warns Kit to stop protecting her or lose his career. Meanwhile, Gary tries to calm Maria's anxieties that police will come for him next, while a parcel delivery reveals that Christina hasn't controlled her spending, forcing Todd to cover for her in front of George Shuttleworth.
Maria Discovers the Truth
On Wednesday July 22, Dylan visits Betsy and accepts responsibility for what happened before making himself scarce when a police officer arrives to take a statement. Maria clocks Sally Metcalfe's screensaver in the salon, which clearly shows Gary on the street on the night of Theo's murder, despite his claims he was in the builder's yard all night. After Sally sends her the picture, Maria heads home and confronts Gary. Later, as they enjoy a family meal, Kit tears chunks from Gary over Sarah's predicament. Elsewhere, Todd confesses to Summer that he knows Sarah killed Theo but reaffirms he didn't when she was questioned, before confiding about Christina's continued spending. Kit tries to persuade Sarah to implicate Gary, and Lauren masks her hurt when Ollie reveals he has been offered a job in Brighton.
Todd Plans Escape
On Thursday July 23, Todd confirms to James Bailey that he plans to give away Theo's life insurance money, while Christina tells a skint George that she expects Todd to give him a portion. Later, Todd and Summer reveal they have booked flights to Thailand to visit Jason and Eileen Grimshaw. Maria warns Gary that following what has happened, he has forced her to retract her statement that provided him with a false alibi. Gary pleads with her for another chance, reaffirming that he loves her and not Sarah. Also, Kit struggles to manage Harry Platt and is heartened when Adam Barlow steps in to help. Betsy is deeply embarrassed when Lauren has to help her use the toilet, and when Ollie misses the Brighton job, Leanne Battersby makes him head chef of Speed Daal.
Jodie's Secret Revealed
On Friday July 24, after a roasting from Maria, Sarah determines to admit to Lisa what happened with Theo. Before that, she reveals to Kit that Jodie was her attacker. Shona and David are rocked when they learn of Sarah's accusation against Jodie, and upon learning of her trinket box, they search the house. Lily waits until nightfall and heads downstairs to find her games console but discovers the box instead. Sam returns home, and Leanne, Nick Tilsley, and Toyah Battersby worry about the impact Sarah's arrest will have on him. When Leanne reveals she has a new boyfriend, Sam is initially shaken but agrees to meet Idris Nazir later on. Despite Steve McDonald's warnings, Cassie Plummer continues to scheme to get rid of Ross Wilkes with an app that allows people to write reviews about ex-boyfriends, hoping to show Tyrone Dobbs his true colours. David and Maria butt heads when she skives work to spend the day with Gary, and Ben Driscoll is narked to learn that Ollie now works for the competition.
