Police Vow to Hunt Down 'Animals' After Children Killed at Party

Law enforcement officials in California have pledged to track down the perpetrators of a horrific mass shooting that targeted a children's birthday party, leaving three children and a 21-year-old dead. The attack, which took place on Saturday at a banquet hall in Stockton, also left eleven other individuals injured.

San Joaquin County Sheriff Patrick Withrow did not mince words when addressing the media, expressing his outrage at the calculated violence. "We all know that there are people out there who are violent and commit violent crimes," Sheriff Withrow stated. "But these animals walked in and shot children at a children's birthday party."

Chaotic Scene as Multiple Shooters Open Fire

Police were dispatched to the scene just before 6pm local time (2am UK time) on Saturday, responding to reports of an active shooter. The banquet hall was hosting a celebration with an estimated 100 to 150 guests in attendance.

Sheriff Withrow revealed that the initial investigation points to a coordinated attack. There appeared to have been "multiple shooters" who began their assault inside the building before continuing it outside. He emphasised that this was "not a random act," suggesting the gunmen were likely searching for a specific individual.

In the aftermath, investigators have been scouring the area for evidence. Several cars, some with bullet holes, have been towed for forensic analysis. Additionally, firearms were discovered on the roof of a nearby building, though it is yet to be confirmed if they are connected to this crime.

Community Mourns as Manhunt Intensifies

The sheriff, who was at a Thanksgiving celebration in Oregon when the shooting occurred, said he immediately left to help lead the investigation. "I put down my grandbabies to come hunt down these animals who took somebody else's babies away from them," he told reporters, capturing the profound sense of loss.

He made a direct and emotional appeal to the public for assistance, urging anyone with information to come forward. "If you know anything about this, you have to come forward and tell us what you know," he implored. As of now, no suspects are in custody, and police are following every lead.

The local community gathered for a vigil on Sunday to honour the victims, with the entire city council in attendance. Stockton Mayor Christina Fugazi expressed the city's grief, noting that families should be celebrating together, not praying for their loved ones in hospital. California Governor Gavin Newsom's office confirmed he had been briefed on the "horrific shooting."
