A prolific criminal has been handed a significant prison sentence after orchestrating a brazen burglary at the Richmond residence of celebrated British artist Damien Hirst.
Ashley Gentry, 33, described by authorities as a "third-generation burglar" with an extensive criminal history, targeted the world-famous artist's West London home in a carefully planned operation that netted valuable items from the property.
The Sophisticated Break-In
The court heard how Gentry, operating with criminal associates, gained entry to Hirst's home while the artist was away. The burglars employed sophisticated methods to bypass security measures, making off with multiple high-value possessions from within the property.
Detective Inspector James Shirley, who led the investigation, described the burglary as "a professional job" executed by individuals with significant experience in targeting high-value properties.
A Life of Crime
Gentry's criminal portfolio spans nearly two decades, with the court learning he had accumulated 24 previous convictions for 45 offences. His criminal specialisation in burglary has now resulted in his fourth prison sentence.
Prosecutors revealed that Gentry comes from what authorities describe as "a dynasty of house burglars," with his criminal activities following a family pattern of targeting residential properties.
Police Investigation and Arrest
The Metropolitan Police's specialist crime team launched an extensive investigation following the burglary. Their breakthrough came when they identified a vehicle linked to Gentry travelling in the Richmond area around the time of the offence.

At Isleworth Crown Court, Gentry received a four-year and eight-month prison sentence after pleading guilty to the burglary charge. The judge emphasised the seriousness of targeting a residential property, regardless of the victim's celebrity status.
