The couple first crossed paths when Victoria, then known as Posh Spice, attended a Manchester United match with fellow Spice Girl Mel C. They met again the following week in the player's lounge. David recalled on Jimmy Fallon's show in 2019: 'She came to watch me in a game in London with her manager ... She actually got the train up that day. So she wrote her number down on her train ticket, which I still have.' To keep their early romance secret, they would meet in car parks. Victoria explained in their Netflix documentary: 'My manager kept saying, “Try and keep it under wraps.” So, we would meet in car parks and it’s not as seedy as it sounds.'
