Vanessa Woodfield (Michelle Hardwick) and Mackenzie Boyd (Lawrence Robb) have formed an unlikely alliance in Emmerdale to bring down Doctor Caroline Todd (Caroline Harker), who has been revealed as an abuser, blackmailer, and rapist. Vanessa finally learns the horrifying truth about Todd after DS Reid arrives in the village to question her. Stunned, Vanessa realizes she had been defending Todd blindly while Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins) was secretly pursuing a police investigation.
Vanessa Discovers the Truth
Vanessa had no idea about Todd's crimes, despite Charity's attempts to warn her off. Now she knows that Charity has been working with Mack, who is aware of Charity's own secrets—including sleeping with Ross Barton (Michael Parr) and having his baby, which Todd used to blackmail her. Vanessa is determined to make amends for her ignorance.
CPS Drops the Case
Charity suffers a major setback when the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) decides not to proceed with the case due to insufficient evidence. Devastated, Charity struggles to cope, but Mack and Vanessa refuse to let Todd escape justice. They channel their anger into a new plan: uncovering other complaints against Todd.
Uncovering More Evidence
They recall that Jacob Gallagher (Joe-Warren Plant) had previously tried to report Todd for bullying through HR but was unsuccessful. The duo approaches HR representative Carol, who provides them with information that could advance their investigation. Charity confronts Vanessa about this, but is stopped when she meets Helen, another survivor of Todd's abuse, brought in by Vanessa.
Building a Case Together
Initially reluctant to speak, Helen opens up after Charity reveals she was raped by Todd. The three women begin to build a case against the doctor. However, a recent flashforward showing Todd dead suggests their legal efforts may not succeed, hinting at a more vigilante-style resolution.
