Three teenagers were taken to hospital after a car was driven at a group of people during a public order incident in north County Dublin, according to Gardaí.
Incident details
Gardaí responded to a disturbance on Harbour Road, Skerries, on Saturday night. A spokesperson said: 'At approximately 9.30pm a large number of youths gathered and a fight broke out. During the course of the incident, a car drove at a number of people.'
Three teenagers—two female and one male—were taken to Beaumont Hospital for treatment. Their injuries were described as 'non-life threatening'.
Local reaction
Fianna Fáil Senator Lorraine Clifford-Lee, who said she is a family friend of one of the injured young women, expressed shock. 'I am deeply shocked and saddened by the horrific incident that took place on Harbour Road, Skerries, yesterday evening. There is absolutely no place for this kind of violence in our community. My thoughts are with her, the others injured, and all of their families. Thankfully, she is now home from the hospital. I wish each of them a full and speedy recovery.'
Community tensions
Senator Clifford-Lee noted that 'tensions have been building' in the area following 'a significant increase in the number of young people' visiting Skerries. She said she has spoken to Minister for Justice Jim O’Callaghan about the incident and requested additional Garda resources to be deployed 'as soon as possible'.
Gardaí continue to investigate the incident. No arrests have been reported at this time.
