Police Release CCTV Image in Hunt for Suspect After Violent Boxing Day Attack on Tesco Security Guard
Metropolitan Police investigators have released a CCTV image of a man they urgently wish to speak with following a violent Boxing Day assault that left a Tesco security guard with serious, life-altering injuries. The disturbing incident occurred at the Tesco store located on Gainsborough Road in Leytonstone, East London.
Details of the Violent Assault
The attack took place at approximately 4:22 PM on December 26, 2025. According to police reports, the victim, a security guard in his 60s, was engaged in conversation with a man who was exiting the store when he was suddenly and violently assaulted. The attack resulted in a severe eye injury that required immediate hospital treatment. Authorities have confirmed that the injury has caused ongoing visual impairment for the victim, highlighting the serious nature of the assault.
During the altercation, two additional individuals sustained minor injuries. A second security guard and a member of the public who bravely attempted to intervene were both hurt in the chaotic scene. The Metropolitan Police have emphasized the severity of the primary attack, describing it as an unprovoked act of violence against an employee simply performing his duties.
Police Investigation and Public Appeal
Detective Chief Inspector Claudine Davie, who is leading the investigation, issued a strong statement condemning the attack. "This was a violent attack on a member of staff who was simply doing his job," DCI Davie stated. "We have spoken to a number of witnesses but are keen to speak to anyone who recognises the man in this CCTV image. Similarly, anyone who saw the attack and has not yet spoken to police is encouraged to come forward and speak to officers."
The police have conducted multiple witness interviews but believe crucial information may still be held by members of the public. The released CCTV image is a central piece of evidence in their efforts to identify the suspect involved in this serious assault.
