Violent Clash at Dorset's Eggtek Easter Rave Sparks Police Investigation
The annual Eggtek Easter rave, a highlight of the UK's free party scene, descended into violence in Lulworth, Dorset, leaving multiple attendees injured and sparking conflicting accounts between organizers and law enforcement. Approximately two thousand ravers gathered on Ministry of Defence land for the weekend techno event, fully aware of its illegal status under the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act.
Disputed Accounts of the Confrontation
Dorset police claim they responded proportionately after being assaulted with plastic bottles and drink cans, deploying officers with batons, riot shields, dogs, and pepper spray. However, ravers present at the event describe being shocked by the level of force used against them. Footage has emerged showing partygoers being dragged along the ground, bloodied and beaten by police officers.
One man featured in the footage reportedly sustained a fractured nose, wrist, and toe along with head cuts, while another woman was photographed with a bleeding head wound. Additional clips show a man screaming in pain as riot officers push him with his arms twisted behind his back.
Organizers Defend the Peaceful Nature of the Event
A sound-system crew member emphasized that attendees came from diverse backgrounds and that meticulous planning went into the event. "People assume we are a bunch of feral, unemployed, uneducated druggies but that couldn't be further from the truth," he stated. Organizers had instructed ravers to bring their own supplies, litter bags, and shovels to minimize environmental impact.
The crew member explained that past attempts to obtain licenses for such events often fell through at the last minute, leading to financial losses. Consequently, they now organize free parties independently. He noted that while some attendees consumed alcohol and drugs, others were completely sober, and the initial atmosphere was described as "beautiful" and "chilled."
From Cooperation to Confrontation
Photographs from early in the police intervention show ravers helping officers push a vehicle stuck in a ditch, indicating an initially cooperative relationship. However, this quickly deteriorated when police sent in the riot squad. A second raver recounted, "Everyone was helping everyone else and the party was chilled until police sent in the riot squad."
Dorset police maintain that the violence originated from hostile ravers who threw missiles, stating, "Violence in our communities and against our officers will not be tolerated." The force has confirmed receiving complaints about the use of force and is reviewing them through standard procedures.

One attendee expressed concern over the injuries and trauma suffered by peaceful partygoers, urging authorities to conduct a proper investigation rather than sweeping the incident under the carpet.
