More than £100,000 has been raised for the family of a three-year-old boy who suffered serious injuries after being thrown into a crocodile pit at a Cambridgeshire zoo. The incident occurred on June 18 at Johnsons of Old Hurst near Huntingdon, where the boy was thrown down a 7ft (2.1m) pit.
Boy undergoes seven operations after attack
The boy has undergone seven operations, including a nerve graft to restore movement in his left hand. He required a 12-hour operation after being rescued by zoo staff and taken to hospital. In a recent update on the fundraising page, the family said they are 'amazed at how far he has come' and that he is 'smiling again'. They added: 'We are not at the end of our journey but hopeful the most recent operation will be the last for now, which means if everything goes well we will be able to go home soon.'
Suspect arrested and bailed
A 30-year-old man from Norfolk was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder following the incident. He was later bailed after police said he was 'assessed as not being fit for interview'. Reports indicate the suspect has learning difficulties and was on a trip with carers at the time. An investigation has been launched into his care arrangements.
Fundraising campaign exceeds £100,000
