Metropolitan Police officers used a Taser to arrest a 17-year-old boy who was carrying a machete in his waistband on a street in Wembley. The incident occurred on May 19 at approximately 5:30pm when two officers driving along Empire Way spotted the teenager walking with a friend.
Officers spring into action
An officer quickly approached the pair while brandishing a Taser, detaining the teen and seizing the weapon. Police also discovered that the friend was wearing a stab vest. Due to his status as a juvenile, the teenager—who cannot be named for legal reasons—was issued a nine-month Youth Referral Order.
Police statement on knife crime
A Met spokesperson said: "When eagle-eyed officers spotted a young man carrying a large Rambo knife tucked into his waistband, they quickly sprang into action. The suspect was detained under stop and search powers, arrested, and the weapon seized. Last year alone, officers removed 2,894 knives from our streets."
The force released a video of the arrest on social media, highlighting the ongoing efforts to combat knife crime in London.
