Audience member impersonates Trump during rally
During a 74-minute rally at Wheeler High School in Marietta, Georgia, on July 22, 2026, an unidentified man in the audience repeatedly mocked Donald Trump's mannerisms. The man scrunched his mouth into an O-shape, waved his hands, and wobbled his head back and forth as Trump spoke, mimicking the president's distinctive gestures.
The impersonator continued his antics as Trump described the conflict with Iran as a 'skirmish' and boasted about US employment rates. At one point, he turned to two people sitting next to him, prompting laughter between claps while they looked at their phones. After Trump finished his speech, the man danced in imitation of the Republican leader.
Viral clips and media coverage
Press photographers captured the uncanny moment, and clips of the impersonations went viral on social media. Some X users claimed they could not see the joker, as the man was visible in some broadcasts but not others due to differing camera positions. Footage from the Conservative news channel Right Side Broadcasting Network (RSBN) and the White House itself was widely shared online.
Aaron Rupar posted a clip on X with the caption: 'get a load of the kid in the suit behind Trump impersonating his accordion hands.' The man's identity and intentions remain unclear, and the White House has been approached for comment.
Comparison to 'plaid shirt guy'
The incident drew comparisons to the 'plaid shirt guy' from a 2018 Trump rally in Montana. Then-high school student Tyler Linfest became a meme after showing a bewildered, sceptical expression as Trump spoke. Linfest told CNN that his reactions were genuine: 'All of those reactions were my actual reactions. I would have made those faces if anyone were to say that to me. I was not trying to protest, those were just my actual, honest reactions.'
Trump's speech content
During the rally, Trump claimed that 'communists' were trying to 'blow up Mount Rushmore' and that the US once had 'transgender for everybody'. He referred to the Strait of Hormuz as 'Hormuz Street' and compared Georgia Senator Jon Ossoff to 'Pinky Herman', apparently fumbling the name of Pee-wee Herman, the character played by comedian Paul Reubens.
Trump has previously described his speaking style as 'weaving', a term he used during a 2024 campaign rally in Johnstown, Pennsylvania. 'I'll talk about like nine different things, and they all come back brilliantly together, and it's like, friends of mine that are, like, English professors, they say, "It's the most brilliant thing I've ever seen",' he said.
