Ahmed Jama, 50, from Camden, has been identified as the victim who died from serious head injuries after an attack in Islington. He died in hospital on Wednesday, July 15, five days after being taken to A&E, prompting a murder investigation.
Attack and Arrests
Police were called to Hungerford Road, Islington, at 4am on Friday, July 10, following reports of an assault. Mohamed Touitha, 23, of Melyn Close, Islington, was arrested on suspicion of murder on Tuesday, July 28, and charged the following day. He appeared at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, July 30.
A 24-year-old man arrested on July 22 in Islington on suspicion of murder has been bailed pending further enquiries. Two women, aged 18 and 19, arrested on July 12 on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm, remain on police bail.
Police Appeal
Chief Superintendent Jason Stewart, local policing lead, said: “Our thoughts are first and foremost with Ahmed's family and loved ones at this extremely difficult time. As enquiries continue, local residents can expect to see a continued police presence in the area over the coming days. I would ask anyone with any information, CCTV or doorbell camera footage which could support the investigation to contact us.”
