DJ Fat Tony has reignited discussions about the Beckham family feud, urging the public not to judge those involved after Brooklyn Beckham's explosive Instagram statement earlier this year declared he does not want to reconcile with his parents. The 60-year-old DJ, who played at Brooklyn and Nicola Peltz's wedding, spoke to The Times about the rift.
The wedding incident
Reflecting on the three days he served as DJ at the Peltz-Beckham wedding, Fat Tony said: 'Before judging, people should remember that two parents have lost their first-born son and a son has lost his parents.' He added: 'All families have dramas, but they just happen to be the Beckhams.'
The DJ, whose real name is Anthony Marnoch, was dragged into the drama in January after his husband Stavros Agapiou posted and then deleted a comment supporting Brooklyn's claim that Victoria Beckham danced 'inappropriately' at the wedding. Fat Tony later appeared on ITV's This Morning to clarify the situation.
Media frenzy
He recalled receiving 'dozens' of interview requests from media worldwide, including a 'personal call' from Piers Morgan, which he declined. Last month, he revealed that he had been asked onto This Morning via his group chat with Brooklyn and Nicola, explaining he did not go on the show to 'slag off' Sir David and Lady Victoria.
Speaking to The Telegraph, he said: 'I always like to see a happy ending, and I think that they will as a family all get back together. It's really sad... It was getting to the point where everyone forgot the reality was that some kid's hurting and a family's lost their son.'
Clearing up rumors
During his This Morning appearance, Fat Tony addressed rumors about Victoria's behavior at the wedding. He clarified: 'There was no slut dropping, there was no PVC cat suits, no Spice Girl action, the word "inappropriate", why I said it was as well, it was the timing, this is what happened.'
He explained that Marc Anthony was performing on stage and called Brooklyn up, then asked 'the most beautiful woman' to the stage. 'Then he says, "Victoria come to the stage." Victoria is by the stage, she goes onto the stage. At that point, suddenly, Brooklyn is devastated. He thought he was going to do his first dance with his wife.'
According to the DJ, this sparked a huge reaction from the bride, who stormed out of the room in tears. 'They do this dance and then Marc Anthony goes "Put your hand on your mother's hips". It was a Latin thing. That whole situation was really awkward for everyone in the room.'
Family dynamics
Fat Tony noted that the Beckhams are a 'dance-y family' and said: 'What we deem as inappropriate, it's not how Brooklyn feels. It's about how Brooklyn feels.'
