Former President Donald Trump suggested there was no foul play in the death of Senator Lindsey Graham, and criticized the FBI for investigating the matter. Speaking to reporters at the White House, Trump said he did not see a lot of “evil” in Graham’s death and believed the FBI was “wasting their time” if they were looking into conspiracy theories surrounding the incident.
Graham's Death and Initial Ruling
Graham, 71, died on Saturday evening after what his office described as a “brief and sudden illness.” On Sunday, the chief medical examiner preliminarily ruled that he died of aortic dissection due to cardiovascular disease. A comprehensive report is expected to take some time to complete.
FBI Involvement and Federal Response
FBI Director Kash Patel stated on Sunday that the bureau was “assisting local authorities and has made every necessary resource available.” The reason for Patel's statement remains unclear, and the FBI has not commented further. Approximately 20 agents from the FBI and other federal agencies, along with US Capitol Police officers, attended Graham’s Washington, D.C., residence yesterday. According to two law enforcement sources familiar with the scene who spoke to NBC News, federal agents were continuing to investigate his death out of an abundance of caution.
Trump's Remarks and Briefing
Trump also revealed that he was briefed by doctors at the White House on Graham’s death. He described the condition as “very almost undetectable” and noted that “if it happens, there’s not much you can do about it. Sounds unfortunate, but there’s not much you can do about it.”
