Sikh mum, 24, stabbed to death in suspected racist attack

The first image of Kirandeep Kaur, a 24-year-old Sikh woman who was allegedly stabbed to death in her home, has been released. The attack occurred on Uxbridge Road on Sunday morning while she slept, just weeks after giving birth.

Victim's Background and Family Sacrifice

Kirandeep Kaur moved to the United Kingdom nearly two years ago on a student visa and later obtained a work permit, living and working in the country. Her parents, Sukhdev Singh and Baljeet Kaur, sold all their farmland in Punjab, India, to fund her education abroad, hoping she would build a better future and help her siblings settle overseas. They told local media PTC News that an unidentified assailant entered her bedroom and attacked her with a sharp-edged weapon in what they believe was a racist attack. They have demanded that her body be returned to India and that those responsible face justice.

Police Response and Charges

The Metropolitan Police stated they 'quickly' located a 44-year-old man nearby matching the suspect's description, who had injuries consistent with jumping out of a window. Daniel Sean James, 44, of Mercer Place, Pinner, has been charged with murder, attempted murder, and possession of a bladed article. A Met spokesperson said: 'Although there is no evidence this was a hate crime at this stage, investigators are keeping an open mind and exploring every line of enquiry.'

Kirandeep's brother-in-law, Sahib, told Metro: 'She had just had a baby. The family were so happy. We are heartbroken. She was a wonderful mother.' Her neighbor Ruby described her as a 'friendly, smiley young mum' who doted on her newborn. Ruby said: 'She was really nice, just a smiley, friendly young lady. I can't imagine why this would have happened. The baby is so cute and we were all so pleased for the mum. We are all heartbroken.'

Kirandeep's place of worship, Sri Guru Singh Sabha in Southall, expressed being 'deeply saddened and shocked by the heinous murder.' They stated: 'The loss of a young life in such violent circumstances has profoundly affected our congregation and the wider community. Every person has the right to live free from violence and fear. We call upon the authorities to ensure that this case is investigated thoroughly, transparently and with the utmost diligence so that justice is served.'
