Russian MMA Fighter Sentenced to Four Years for Brutal Assault Witnessed by Barron Trump
A Russian former mixed martial arts fighter has been sentenced to four years in prison for a vicious assault on a woman that was witnessed during a video call by Donald Trump's youngest son Barron, who immediately alerted British authorities.
Jealous Rage in Canary Wharf Apartment
Matvei Rumiantsev, 23, launched a brutal attack on the victim at his Canary Wharf apartment in January 2025 after becoming jealous of her friendship with Barron Trump, 19. The court heard that Rumiantsev "flew into a rage" when he noticed Barron calling the woman during their video conversation.
During the sustained assault, which lasted approximately one hour, Rumiantsev answered a FaceTime call from Barron Trump on the victim's phone and deliberately turned the camera to show her crying on the floor. The former MMA fighter filmed himself shoving the woman while calling her derogatory names, then proceeded to kick her in the stomach as she screamed in pain.
Barron Trump's Emergency 999 Call to London Police
In a dramatic 999 emergency call to City of London Police on January 18, 2025, Barron Trump pleaded for immediate assistance, telling the operator: "It's really an emergency. I'm calling from the US, uh I just got a call from a girl, you know, she's getting beat up."
The US president's son provided the address where the assault was occurring and emphasized the urgency of the situation, stating: "She's getting really badly beat up and the call was about 8 minutes ago, I don't know what could have happened by now."
The victim herself managed to call emergency services during the prolonged attack, desperately telling operators: "Please help me, I'm gonna get killed."
Court Proceedings and Sentencing
At Snaresbrook Crown Court, Mr Justice Bennathan sentenced Rumiantsev to four years imprisonment for assault occasioning actual bodily harm and perverting the course of justice. The judge described Rumiantsev as "a man given to jealousy" with a dangerous temper, and criticized his "totally unrepentant" attitude and failure to accept responsibility for his violent actions.
"Your lack of insight and empathy was apparent at trial," Justice Bennathan told the defendant. "You continue to try to blame the complainant for everything that has happened." The judge noted that Rumiantsev had described his actions as merely "inappropriate" rather than acknowledging the brutal reality of the sustained assault.
Attempts to Obstruct Justice
The court heard disturbing details about Rumiantsev's efforts to obstruct justice following his arrest. Evidence showed he made "repeated efforts" to convince the victim to withdraw her allegations, including making a phone call from the police station and sending a letter to a friend while in prison.
Rumiantsev was found guilty of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and perverting the course of justice, though he was acquitted of rape and intentional strangulation charges related to the same incident. Additional charges concerning alleged offenses in November 2024 also resulted in not guilty verdicts.
The case highlights the intersection of social media connections, celebrity associations, and domestic violence, with Barron Trump's intervention playing a crucial role in bringing the assailant to justice. The sentencing serves as a stark reminder of the serious consequences of violent behavior and attempts to manipulate legal proceedings.
