Reform UK has ignited a political row over MP safety following the murder of Ann Widdecombe, with party figures accusing Commons Speaker Lindsay Hoyle of failing to provide adequate security for Reform MPs.
Reform UK leaders demand better protection
Spokespeople Zia Yusuf and Richard Tice have framed the issue as another instance of the “establishment” versus Reform UK, echoing Nigel Farage’s rhetoric when he resigned as MP for Clacton. They argue that Reform UK MPs are being left vulnerable due to a lack of security support from parliamentary authorities.
Speaker’s team pushes back
However, sources close to Speaker Hoyle have strongly rejected these claims. Pippa Crerar reported that Hoyle’s team is angered by what they see as misleading accusations, insisting that security arrangements are based on threat assessments and are applied equally to all MPs regardless of party affiliation.
The row highlights ongoing tensions between Reform UK and the political establishment, with safety concerns now at the forefront of parliamentary debate. No official changes to security protocols have been announced.
