The Metropolitan Police have launched a manhunt after a suspected rape in broad daylight was captured on CCTV in Streatham, south London. The attack occurred outside Gaumont Place at 5:30 AM on Tuesday, May 12. The incident was not reported at the time, but police were alerted the following day and reviewed the footage.
Police Appeal for Victim and Witnesses
Detective Constable Charlie Codrington, leading the investigation, said: "We know the woman in this footage will be scared, but we urge her to contact the police. We are concerned for her wellbeing and officers are here to provide her with welfare, medical, and trained support." He described the incident as "horrifying" and noted it took place near a busy high street.
Suspect Description
The suspect is described as a black man of medium build, believed to be in his early 30s. The Met have released images of the man they need to trace and are urging anyone who recognizes him to come forward. "We have released images of a man we need to trace and would urge anyone who recognises him to contact us. If you have any further information about what happened, please come forward," added Codrington.
